How to sing better?

how much of it has to do with how good your voice sounds?

should you change your voice while you sing to make it sound lower/different?

how to improve accuracy and hitting all the notes?

etc..

thanks
How to sing better?
I'd say about fifty percent of singing is natural ability. The remainder, however, comes from practice, practice, and more practice.

With some tequila.
i'm in chorus, and mr. peckham always tells us to open our mouths wider (to let the sound out better) and put real feeling into it, like youre in the situation the song is about
take lessons
I'd agree with the first poster .. you've got to have talent, and an ear for keeping pitch. After that it's practice again and again.

Also, when you're singing, try to feel where the sound is coming from. If it's coming from your throat.. no good. It's got to come from your chest.. down in your stomach. You'll get to noticing the difference, I'm sure.
Once again, I will recommend getting voice lessons! Even a few will give you a better idea about what you're doing.

This non-profit website has teachers listed. There is bound to be one in your area!
To sing, it depends alot on how you SOUND, that would be the point of SINGING. You can better your specific sound by taking lessons. You shouldn't CHANGE your voice; if you can't hit the notes try transposing but never change the sound of your voice. Try warm ups with alot of runs on half and whole steps and work on songs for your specific needs vocally.
it has a lot to do with if you have a voice that at least sounds pleasant, but eve if you have a nice voice if you don't practice it won't make any difference.

-don't change the sound of your voice when you're singing

-to improve accuracy, practice a lot, learn the song, if you're talking about sight reading then start with the basics

-to make it sound nicer when you are hitting the notes think as though you are coming down to the note from above to avoid scooping which usually sounds terrible

- to make your voice sound more powerful, not breathy and fuller you need 'energy' and to breathe from your diaphragm:

-so when you breath the stomach muscles should be relaxed and your ribcage should expand, when you are singing keep the ribcage from collapsing

-a good excercise to strengthen your diaphragm is to do a scale with sticattos try doing 'Ya ha ha ha ha ha ha' on a scale going up, when you are singing sticattos you should be using your diaphragm and oyur muscles in your stomach

However they are right you should try to find a vocal instructor so they can teach you what you need to know for your specific needs vocally.
Hello,

I would have to say that what worked for me was singing along with a song I really liked but that I knew it wasn't that difficult to follow. Then bying the instrumental cd or tape and tryed to sing it alone until I sound like the singer. This way I would test what I can really do and guess what I surprised myself unto this day. This only makes you feel confident and you will then try other vocals and different tones for yourself. Then you will know how you should tone your voice. You might also want to ask a music teacher to tell you what note are you. This way you can start with music that have that tone and take it from there. ;)
