helium gas is much less dense than the oxy/nitrogen we normally breath and it allows the vocal chords to vibrate more quickly so your voice is pitched high,
Helium is not poisonous but when you breath it a couple of times you will have flushed all the oxygen from your system and will pass out. The body is signaled to breathe, by a higher concentration of CO2 in your blood, but after breathing helium or any other single gas, for that matter, the CO2 is flushed from your bloodstream so that when you pass out from lack of oxygen, your lungs do not get the impulse to start breathing again and you will die.
That's why it is dangerous, particularly for children.

Instead of inhaling oxygen, you are inhaling much more of another gas than you ever normally would. This just happens to be a sideaffect of breathing it in. What is it like to get your tonsils out?
I have to get a tonsilectimy soon (in about 2 weeks). I'm kind of afraid that it will hurt a lot. Or that my voice will sound really different when I get my tonisls and adnoid out. What generally happens when you get your tonsils removed? How long does it take to recover? And how much does your voice change? (I'm a singer, so this concerns me especially.) Thanks!

when he was a little kid, he put his mouth over the spout of a steaming teapot, and yep - steamed them clear off! Doctors said he was lucky, as that was all he did. Ate ice cream, popsicles, and was actually f.i.n.e.

What you're going to have is a T%26amp;A - tonsillectomy %26amp; adenoidectomy. During the procedure you will be anesthetized, asleep and will feel nothing. Afterwards, when the anesthesia wears off, you will be in pain. You will be given a prescription for a pain med. Take it. You sound like you're at least a teenager so you should know that the older you are, the harder it is on you. A 2-3 week full recovery isn't abnormal for an older person. You will not want to swallow but it will important that you take clear liquids for the first few days and you may wish to follow a liquid diet for up to a week. Water, broth, jello, etc. Advance your diet to full liquids and then soft foods as tolerated. You'll be given postop instructions that include diet and care as well as precautions and when to have your postop follow up with your surgeon. Ice cream may be too painful at first. Bed rest, avoid bending and lifting. Expect some bleeding at first. With the surgical equipment available these days, bleeding is at a minimum if at all. You'll survive.
This procedure has nothing to do with the vocal cords.

It depends on the actor. A true superstar like Inoue Kikuko makes a lot more than a noob, but usually the number of lines enters into it...along with incentives and merchandising agreements. It all depends on the individual contract.
It is a lot like the folks who sing anime themes...people like Utada, BoA, Koda Kumi, Ishida Yoko, Kotoko, and Takahashi Youko make a hell of a lot more than people nobody has ever heard of. There is also a bonus if your seiyu can also sing his/her parts in the anime...like Kikuko and Rie Tanaka for example.
How do they alter their voices? Well, the simple fact is that they generally don't (at least, not that much), but they do add nuances and affectations. I once met Inoue Kikuko and I was amazed that her speaking voice is nearly identical to the voice she uses as Belldandy in Ah! My Goddess. If you study Kikuko's voice as Belldandy in Ah! My Goddess, %26quot;Manager-san%26quot; in Chobits, and Kazami Mizuho in Onegai Teacher...you will see that there is only very subtle nuance and virtually no voice change. For US seiyu, I was also amazed that Tiffany Grant sounds a whole lot like Asuka...without the dramatics of course. BTW, someone like Tiffany makes whatever ADV wants to pay her...and, seeing as how her husband was the President of ADV...well, you take it from there.
Just like in movies and TV, the key players make more money. For example, Evangelion would lose a lot more viewers if Asuka was re-voiced than if Maya was.

My wife worked for a production company during college and medical school...she was just on staff in a non-acting gig. They came down the office and said, %26quot;Hey, we need somebody to read a few lines.%26quot; She did. Fame and fortune did not follow. LOL

Question 2: You wouldnt have to train the people judge u if you make the right emotions with your voice for the right parts and if u sound like someone that the character looks like in their opinion

Now, with the subject of voice training. I've never heard of it, but taking vocal lessons and theater class may be useful as well. Actually, theater is a must. You have to be able to act if you want to be a voice ACTOR.

There are also gases that are heavier than air, and you can store them in a tank with an open lid because the air on top forces it to stay in the tank. If you lean over and speak after breathing in the gas then your voice will deepen and become slower.
It's a fun little project for science classes, just don't breath in anything toxic. That would put a quick end to all the fun.

You don't want to allow any regular air to get into your lungs if possible, just the helium from the balloon. Then, without taking another breath, talk. Your voice will sound like Mickey Mouse, very high and funny. As far as I know helium won't hurt you. Once you take a breath of regular air, your voice immediately goes back to normal. It's lots of fun and guaranteed will make you laugh a LOT!

I have had the privilege of meeting one of Jaapan's best and most famous seiyu, Inoue Kikuko. She has done hundreds of characters...and they all sound like Inoue Kikuko. Listen to her as Belldandy in AMG, Manager-san in Chobits, and Kazumi Mizuho in Onegai Teacher. She sounds exactly the same...and exactly the same as she sounds when she is speaking normally. She uses very slight mannerisms in some characters...like that little skipped breath when Belldandy says, %26quot;Keiichi-san.%26quot; It is almost like a stifled cry or a hiccup. I have never heard anyhing like it by any other vboice actor.

Watch an anime you like...write down some dialogue from the character and then practice...and then do it with the sound turned off. It will help you a lot.

Unfortunately, Melodyne not free and is a little on the expensive side ($700) retail for the Studio version but if you go to celemony.com, you will find the right version in your price range. Melodyne plugin is much less expensive and only disadvantage to buying these are a low track count. I did this for a living and it's a great way to make some extra money in addition to my normal job. I often hear that I'm shy but that is because I really don't like hearing my voice. Its low (not that low but still noticeable) and tend to mumble. Is there a way to change your voice to improve speaking or is there some speaking style perffered among the years of other. It seems to be ruining everything- my parents don't think I'm as mature because of it.
Plus, I love singing, and I do have a good voice- but it would be even better if the 'sickly-sweet' element to it disappeared.

Your voice is determined by genetics so you are to an extent stuck with it. However, a voice does change throughout a lifetime, and it will gradually change with age - becoming deeper, huskier. Some of this is due to hormonal changes over time.
You can, however, learn to alter your voice. Actors, singers, and voiceover artists learn to do this regularly. Look up techniques on how to accomplish this online, or get some books from the library or book store. There are ways to tighten/loosen your vocal cords to alter sound, vary tone based on the amount of air across the vocal cords, diaphragm, etc.

My daughter is only 10 she still has a young voice but it ha matured immensely since she started training with a musical theatre company an is learning to sing correctly that is through the diaphragm using your chest and head voice and a mix. If you don't already sing this way you should, not only will you sing better and sing the best you can, you could save your voice a lot of damage especially if you belt. Belting will cause constant coughs and sore throats, cracking of your voice on high notes and nodules.
For an honest assessment of your voice or to enter an on line singing comp for 8 - 18 years, please contact me for th name of the company and site.

I'm curious...what is the average highest belted note? Or when do you normally change to your "head voice?!?
I was wondering, what is the average time when girls changes from her chest or highest belted note to their head voice? I change around C5 or D5 the C or D above middle C. Is that normal? I really want to learn to belt or sing much higher notes instead of changing to my head voice...I heard people do mixed voice...but I would be the happiest person alive if I could hit higher notes in my chest voice/belting voice...I'm a soprano and my range is F3 to at least C6 (high C) when I'm not warmed up. And I am untrained as well...also I've heard many people say that are sopranos %26quot;they are singing so high%26quot; (in their chest voice) and I always think that is so funny cuz I know that soprano is the highest or first soprano. Also, can mezzo soprano's belt higher notes in their chest voice more then sopranos? I would recommend that you take lessons. An on-the-spot teacher will help you understand the various registers and gear shifts that happen in your voice in the way no on-line program can. A teacher can also describe to you what not to do and why ( physical damage!)

I would recommend that you take lessons. An on-the-spot teacher will help you understand the various registers and gear shifts that happen in your voice in the way no on-line program can. A teacher can also describe to you what not to do and why ( physical damage!)

I notice that with my family, I to speak my mind, so I don't even think about how my voice sounds. Then when I'm with friends, I talk in a different way. Is this natural? Because I do this ALL the time which really annoys me. Once my friend asked me if I was feeling sick since I was speaking in a different way and I didn't even feel anywhere close to being sick.

I am just curious about this, but if you are at your work, and you had a phone call from your partner. You are at a situation where you are allowed to talk to your family or close friends as long as it's not too loud and too long.
For me, I would tend to use a different tone of voice. At home, I tend to use sweet voice to him, I am not trying to do that, but just talking with him is so enjoyable that my voice gets sweeter. But I feel so embarrassing to do that in front of people.
THEN, I noticed that recently a lot of people talk on a phone with their partner as they do at home/ or date. How they talk doesnt really change.

Speaking and singing involve a voice mechanism that is composed of different parts of the body that have specific roles in voice production, and the diaphragm is not on its own. Although it is the predominant muscle of respiration, during singing many other muscles become important to voice production and what is commonly referred to as %26quot;support%26quot;.
The most important muscles are those of the abdominal wall, which contract when we exhale and *push up the diaphragm*, raising pleural pressure, which raises alveolar pressure, which in turn pushes the air out. The diaphragm would be incapable of doing this on its own!
The internal intercostal musicles are also important.
What this means is that you should never concentrate on your diaphragm, nor should you attempt to push or pull or force ANY muscle in your neck, jaw, tongue, chest, throat, back or abdomen.
You should relax your abdominal muscles so that they, along with the diaphragm, chest muscles and rib muscles can do their jobs. which they know how tyo do if you do nothing violent.
Your diaphragm is always working. As you read this, your diaphragm, a sheet of muscle that separates the thoracic cavity from the abdominal cavity, is responsible for every breath you take.
While you sleep, the diaphragm continues to work. (The diaphragm also does other things, such as increasing intra-abdominal pressure when it is necessary for things such as vomiting...but that is another story.)
I say this because there are many false ideas about %26quot;using%26quot; the diaphragm or needing to %26quot;build it up%26quot;. This not true. Unless we are very sick or have had a bad accident, we are born with all of the diaphramatic strength and coordinating we will ever need.
The trick is to remain relaxed and not push!
To not sing %26quot;with your throat%26quot; the first concept is that you must avoid taking big breaths and trying to sing loudly. This is a big mistake.
Most people tend to sing on the throat today. The reason most people sing on the throat is because they are trying to create volume and increase vocal range, using ambition and forcing to get there. This is wrong. If you do this, no matter how well the diaphragm functions, you will definitely use your throat muscles.
Never push your stomach in or out or lower or raise your chest. Be as natural as possible. Air, vibration and resonance are all part of the voice.
All three have to be correct. This depends on a relaxed, natural approach.
The Vocal folds have to be allowed to vibrate freely, without pressure.
If you feel that you can speak well, without forcing your voice, you can apply this to your singing. When you talk, your diaphragm participates. If you speak well, do not shout or clench your jaw, if your speaking voice is clear and you have not problems speaking, this all points to having a good speaking voice and therefore you arre already producing your voice correctly, with help from the diaphragm. Speaking and singing are physiologically alike. You have to speak well in order to sing well.

I am 13 years old and my voice has been %26quot;changing%26quot; for about a year now. I understand how, why, and the reasons it changes. I'm just not sure how to tell when my voice has finished changing. Right now, I can still talk in my childhood voice, but I also noticed that about 2 months after my voice started changing, I developed a deeper voice that I could speak in and that it became increasingly difficult to speak in my normal voice. Sometimes it's really hard to talk in my kid voice and it jumps down to the low voice. Because I had tonsillitis have I was 10 about 3 times in 6 months. I've noticed that my singing voice isn't as stronger as before. I'm 13 now, but my voice is still the same but I can't seem to reach higher and louder notes as before. When I try to sing a higher note, my voice always breaks or cracks up.

My regular normal voice is rather nasally. When I was younger I often had problems with my nose and such (couldn't breathe through it very well). I dislike the way my voice sounds. Is there anyway to change your natural voice or am I just stuck with it? And I am a girl. Thanks!

Alot of gay males talk alittle like Girls, because when they were born the X Chromosome and the Y Chromosome that is use to determine whether you are a male or female gets combined. They are really one or the other, but they have Masc parts to them and Fem parts to them. With some gay men thats where the Fem parts come out is through the voice.

If you can afford it, I would say you should take private lessons. Also, sing as often as you can. Join the church choir, a local chorale, anything that will keep you singing. An important thing to remember is that you should do vocal warm-ups before you sing, a good 20 minutes worth of scales and exercises. Like a previous answer said, push you voice a little outside your comfort zone to extend your range, but not so much that you're straining your voice. You don't want to permanently injure your instrument.
Also, when you sing think about the lyrics and what they mean. It may sound better if the words have meaning behind them... if it's coming from somewhere deeper than your throat, know what I mean?
As far as changing your voice, I think that once you develop your voice you'll find your own personal style and that may be the change you're looking for. You certainly don't want to sound like someone else, just be the best 'you'! You may end up having one of those voices that is so unique that you'll be instantly recognizable on the radio :-)

If you are tone deaf, this will all be a little harder, but you can improve your ear by trying to match pitch w/ a keyboard or even one of your favorite songs. If worse comes to worse, remember %26quot;How quiet the woods would be if only the best birds sang%26quot; and don't let it get you down. I used to get sore throats from the deepening of the accursed thing and when in the middle of an animated conversation when my voice was crossing the scales, so to speak, it would all of a sudden crack. I realise now that this is a source of embarassment for alot of youths but it gave me and my family the source of great laughter. I used to do it deliberately just to amuse people!!
I used to be able to do the Woody Woodpecker cackle before, a rapid heheheHEhe-heheheHEhe, but afterwards I was unable to do it. I was also able to sing all the high notes of the Stylistics (a seventies band that my mother loved) I was so cheesed off!
I was done with the major changes by the time I was fifteen or sixteen, although now, my voice seems to be deepening even further as grow older.

I don't know why, or how, but when I talk to my mother I kind of have a tinge of baby voice, and I don't even notice I'm doing it! I guess, I was an only child raised bu just my mother and was really babied. But it's strange and embarrassing. Not that it's a whole lot, but it's still there. Is that normal? Does your voice change tone when talking to your parents, and if so what do you sound like? Lol! Thanks!

Not anymore. I am who I am and my parents respect and accept who I am. They will always see you as their child but there is no need to speak differently to them.
It may be that it is comforting to you, but if you are no longer a child you need to speak to them as you would as you do in public, unless you are doing it for an inside laugh with your family as you used to be as a child

I do not have different tones however the tune gets somewhat lower in front of seniors members of my family since I think they should be regarded more than others.

How to change the sound of your voice?
I have an audition in three days, and in previous auditions they said my acting was great but my voice didn't sound good on stage. As this audition involves singing as well, I really want to change the sound of my voice so I can sound good on stage while singing and acting.
Any ideas? I'm singing Billy Idol - Dancing With Myself, if that helps any.

Unfortunately, you just have to voice you have. If you could change the sound of your voice everyone would be amazing singers. If you want to improve your voice just practice everyday, possibly even get a vocal coach. Also, drink hot tea before your audition and do scales to warm up your voice. What is a good thing to use to record your voice that won't make it sound weird ?
I tried my computer, and it made my voice all squeaky, but my voice is not.
Then I tried my other webcam and it made my voice all deep ! ( its not deep but not %26quot;undeep%26quot; =P
I want to record myself sing so this why I'm asking.
Then the last thing I used was my camera, ( its not a real video camera ) it just has a video thing on it so I can record.
But again, it made my voice all weird :S
What do you use that doesn't change your voice too much ?
Please say all the details, like where you got it and how much it is, what kind it is and stuff like that.

But when we hear our voices on a recording it will always sound different to us because, The sound is coming from outside our head, instead of right next to our ears. It's hard to explain, but the acoustics are different, do you know what I mean? So you are never going to sound perfect to yourself. Even if someone tells you that the recording sounds the same to them as if you were actually singing it, it will probably still sound different to you.

Does voice changer diamond work with ventrilo?
If so, how do you get them to both work. Does it matter if you use a usb type microphone or one with 2 plug ins? Are there any other programs that will also change your voice for ventrilo and you know for a fact it works?

Apparently, Sai Tonarine is the name taken by a Nicovideo user who modifies her voice to sound like a Vocaloid. I was wondering if anyone knows of a program that can change your voice to sound like a vocaloid or vocaloid-ish... If you don't know what they sound like, they sound like regular people but are actually vocal synthesizing programs specialized in singing. If you still don't know what they sound like, just look %26quot;vocaloid%26quot; up on Youtube and listen to one of their songs.
